With Malcolm being open about his motivations it was soon reported to Jagex that an avid fan was developing a game based on OSRS gold the company's own MMO. A staff member flagged it to management, with Director of Product Management Chris Pfeiffer telling us his team was impressed with "how much was accomplished and how closely it was in sync to RuneScape."

"Furthermore the idea of giving someone from our community this chance has been a hugely exciting experience for everyone involved in the business."
Pfieffer along with his colleagues, He and his team members tried Melvor Idle for themselves and enjoyed it -- enough to make a call to Malcolm in hopes of discussing the idea of work in the first quarter of 2021.
